Explosive Power

Are you familiar with Einstein’s Theory of Relativity?  E=mc² — the simple equation summarizing that theory – was basically saying that ‘energy’ (on the left side of the equation) and ‘matter’ (on the right side) are really the same stuff!  So, if the energy of something, is always equal to the mass of that something, times the-speed-of-light (the “constant”) squared, then everything in the universe actually has explosive power locked inside of it!

That was a revolutionary concept when Einstein first introduced it.  The big question in scientific circles immediately became: “How can we unleash that explosive power?”   During World War II, American scientists seriously put their minds to this question, and finally figured out how to unleash the explosive power in uranium.  The result was the atomic bomb, and the rest is history.

Are you familiar with what Jesus – after his resurrection – said to his disciples (which includes you and me)?  He said this:

“You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you shall be my witnesses – in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

The word “power” In that scripture – in the original language – is “dunamis”.  Dunamis is the word from which we get our word “dynamite”.  Explosive power!   So, that scripture is basically saying that the explosive power of the Holy Spirit, plus believers like you and me (on the left side of God’s equation) equals the spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the whole world (on the right side of God’s equation).  That was a revolutionary concept when Jesus first introduced it.  But the Early Church led by Jesus’ original disciples believed it, and the rest is history!

If the same Holy Spirit promised back then, has also been given to every believer in Jesus today (see 1 Corinthians 12:13), then every church that confesses Jesus Christ as Lord today actually has the explosive power of the Early Church locked inside of it!  The question is, “How do we unleash that explosive power?”

I would say that we have to seriously put our minds to this question, and pray, pray, and then pray some more!  We need to humbly ask God to make us in reality, what we already are in his eyes – “dynamite”!  The world desperately needs for Christians to have explosive power like the Early Church.

As we pray, here are some additional scriptures that have that same word “dunamis” wherever you see ”power” in bold letters.  I recommend reading these scriptures out loud, while keeping the meaning of that word in mind.  Perhaps God will unleash his explosive power in us sooner than we think!

Romans 1:20: “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”

Ephesians 3:20–21: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.”

2 Timothy 1:7: “For the God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

Hebrews 1:3: “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by the word of his power. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.”

2 Peter 1:3: “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness, through the true knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”
